Aguamar - hmmm, salty...
It's hard to follow the other side of the blog and the holy grail of water parks and their loopy slides - because they are incredible - but, someone has to, so, I thought I would try with a short review.
Picture the scene. I'm in Ibiza, I feel absolutely ruined from the night before but I've managed to drag myself (and my accomplices) out of our villa to the local waterpark, Aguamar. There are about 10 of us, all about 30, all looking dogged but there in body if not mind.
Walking through the entrance, we're greeted by this, albeit at a slightly different angle. My first thoughts were that it's not the biggest, but I'm looking forward to cool off and have some slide action. It's not to bad a price to get in either (18 Euros), but I've been told that's the same price as Alton Towers. One of us has been there before, 'it's not changed in 20 years'. He had been there as a kid....
Anyhow, we're all in now, and since all of us there are very competitive, it's off to the blue set of 4 slides, called 'Foam' - why it was called this I don't know. It's a race!
Four of us are at the top of the slide waiting for the whistle (it is a well run place). On hearing said whistle, we all leap onto the slide. POW! Salt in the face! Halfway down I'm gagging. Myself and my companions have just discovered (the hard way) that the park is fuelled by salt water! Now I think there's a reason for this. Ibiza has a water shortage problem and syphoning off thousands of litres of water for a water park probably isn't in the best interest of the inhabitants.
If you're reading this though, you're probably asking yourself, 'how was the slide, was it so good you could forgive the salty flavours that were left in your mouth?' Well, in all honesty it wasn't bad really, not great, but not bad. I think if I had known that the water was salty, I might have been prepared for it.
Now I'm used to the salt water, it's on to the other slides, not all of them, just a couple of highlights..
Kamikaze - I think this is probably meant to be one of the more adventurous slides. It's high up and has a double dip in it. At the top, you could say that I was slightly apprehensive, but seeing that everyone has to leap into the slide to get any speed, calms my (unfounded) nerves. I'm in. The acceleration isn't great, but it's quite fun. Loads of water in the face, a bit of speed and a slight jump at the end (probably my doing!). As a high adrenaline ride, I'd give the slide 2/10 but if you're just looking for a faster slide, it's 6/10.
The black hole - this was fun! Once we negotiated the over zealous water park guy (we queued the wrong way) we collected a double dinghy and went off up the stairs. The black hole is, well, black inside, you can't see anything, there are a few drops and turns, the usual screams and disorientation and boom - right in the salt! This one gets a 7/10 straight up. I liked it.
There were a few other slides hanging about, another double dinghy and a couple of twisty ones, they were OK, and as I said before, the place is well run (note though that we went out of high season, I'm guessing when this place is busy it's full of pink men bombing the kids pool and throwing lager about). Overall it was a little dated, but you'd get a good half day out of it and the food wasn't bad either. Just be prepared for the salty after taste...
Until next time!
